Developing and growing your understanding and practice of the art of facilitation with fellow peers, ready to take on new situations, groups and organisations.

Who’s it for

For those ready to experiment with how they carry responsibility for self and others in their own roles – and who wish to progress their level of insight, understanding and capability for producing outcomes round the organisational task.


Our aim

Developing you further as a skilled facilitator, through the fundamental idea of taking responsibility for your own learning by shaping the programme to meet your own needs and objectives. Growing your capacity for managing projects, teams, work units, task forces, and learning groups.

We tackle

Your own personal and professional development through:

  • Experimenting with intermediate roles between Foundation Peers and The Recess College as a whole,
  • Learning to hold and contain dilemmas of facilitation, to handle the loneliness of leadership and maintaining yourself in role when working through the dynamics of making things happen,
  • You playing a role in helping the College with its vision, long-term goals, value and relevance.

How we work with you

The concept for the Trainees is based around a core set of elements, and then giving you choice in a variety of optional elements – choosing both what you do and how much.

Modules

We will start each stream with a trainee group negotiation and planning session.
You then have the choice of the optional elements then leads to a further choice of the type of endpoint/recognition.

Stage 1

The core

The core includes two steams:

Leadership Insight

Focusing on personal development – self-awareness and self-leadership. You will receive personal consulting on your Leadership Insight from a LI consultant furthering your personal objectives.

Action Learning

Relating to others and operating in the work environment. You will receive consultancy on a chosen project you’re working on (Practise Ground 1) and give advice to projects your fellow group members are working on furthering your professional goals.

An integral part across both streams will be theory inputs on psychodynamic systems, theory, leadership, and dynamics of organisational life.

The Core follows the structure of understanding the individual in three steps. Self | Self and Other | Self, the Other and the Organisation.

Stages 2 & 3

The choice options

Stage 2

You can choose one or all, and these elements will be around:

Practice Ground 2

  • Facilitating the Peers Foundation programme,
  • Supporting Peers Foundation in their Facilitation of OFL alumni and other College events,
  • Co-facilitating on OFL Programme in Personal Action Learning and other events.

Practice Ground 3

  • Creating new and sustainable initiatives,
  • Co-working with the College in setting up and facilitating new projects with public and social impact – such as Our Future Leaders @ School or Future Leaders in Youth @Work.

These projects aim to develop self-leadership, organisational cooperation and understanding of the personal impact of citizenship amongst the participants.

Stage 3

Consists of Practice Grounds 2 and 3

Stage 4

Accreditation

Your endpoint also has choices:

  • Internal review with members of the group of your Self Review,
  • Accredited review where you submit your updated self-assessment to the Association of Facilitators,
  • Accredited review plus an advanced paper on your learning. This paper is also reviewed by the Association of Facilitators and leads to a further commendation certificate.
